c# odbcconnection not closing

c# odbcconnection not closing

Hope that helps I've finally found the solution. I've left the DbDataReader open. I had to wrap all the DbDataReaders inside a using block. Now my connections are closed when I call _connection.close().
So it doesn't matter if the connection is in the closed state, if any other object is acessing the database, the connection is not realy closed.

wish help you to fix your issue Command.Connection wants a handle (^) to a System::Data::Common::DbConnection
code :
public:
property OdbcConnection^ Connection {
    OdbcConnection^ get ();
    void set (OdbcConnection^ value);
}
System::Data::Odbc::OdbcCommand Command;
Command.Connection = %Connection;
OdbcConnection Connection;
OdbcConnection^ Connection; // In the class definition

// In the class constructor do the following:
Connection = gcnew OdbcConnection();
Why isn't ODBCConnection.State reliable?

Why isn't ODBCConnection.State reliable?

I wish did fix the issue. The nature of networking is that you often don't know there's a problem until you actually try to send data. If you simply pull the plug out of the back of the computer (or you pull the plug out of a switch somewhere in between your client and the server) then there's no way for the operating system to know until it actually tries to send data that there's even a problem.
The reason, then, that State is not reliable is because it's impossible to make it completely reliable without actually actually trying to send data to the server. Since that's far too much work for a simple property to do (a whole network roundtrip) it doesn't do that, and just does the simplest thing possible.

I wish did fix the issue. For both examples where you wrap your Reader in a using block, you will close the connection with the existing code IF you use the override that accepts a CommandBehavior and set it to 'CloseConnection'
code :
using(var reader = cmd.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection)){}

will help you I would avoid abstracting the connection to the database as you are always targeting the lowest common denominator. Instead, try to abstract the requirement of saving the entities. Each implementation of that abstraction can then be database specific (basically, programming against interfaces).
That said, I have not once experienced an instance where needing to support multiple databases was a hard requirement. In this case, all this aggravation runs into the YAGNI mantra.

OdbcConnection.ConnectionString Property
code :
connection-string ::= empty-string[;] | attribute[;] | attribute; connection-string
empty-string ::=
attribute ::= attribute-keyword=attribute-value | DRIVER=[{]attribute-value[}]
attribute-keyword ::= DSN | UID | PWD
 | driver-defined-attribute-keyword
attribute-value ::= character-string
driver-defined-attribute-keyword ::= identifier
