BIRT two phases, Report Generation and Presentation

hop of those help? The two phases are called "Run" and "Render". If you call BIRT from inside Java (I mean not just call the web viewer per URL), you can decide your own what you want to use. You either use a RunAndRenderTask or separate RunTask and RenderTask.
There are some minor limitations when using RunAndRenderTask. Particularly, the onPageStart event is only called once.
code :
            runTask = engine.createRunTask(design);
            // set parameter values...
            // runTask.setParameterValue("Parameter_Rejo_Id", rejo_id);
            runTask.run(destName + ".rptdocument");
            IReportDocument rptdoc = engine.openReportDocument(destName + ".rptdocument");
            renderTask = engine.createRenderTask(rptdoc);
            FileOutputStream fos = null;
                // Set RenderOptions and PDF RenderOptions
                IRenderOption options = new RenderOption();

                // Workaround for https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=428173

                // options.setOutputFileName(destName);
                fos = new FileOutputStream(destName);
                final int BUFSIZE = 32768;
                options.setOutputStream(new BufferedOutputStream(fos, BUFSIZE));
                PDFRenderOption pdfOptions = new PDFRenderOption(options);
                pdfOptions.setOption(IPDFRenderOption.PAGE_OVERFLOW, IPDFRenderOption.OUTPUT_TO_MULTIPLE_PAGES);
                pdfOptions.setOption(IPDFRenderOption.PDF_TEXT_WRAPPING, true);
                pdfOptions.setOption(IPDFRenderOption.PDF_HYPHENATION, true);
                options.setOption(IRenderOption.CLOSE_OUTPUTSTREAM_ON_EXIT, true);

hope this fix your issue Yes, BIRT can generate a report in HTML, Postscript, PDF, Excel, and Word out of the box.
How do you set and pass a parameter to a BIRT report created by the BIRT Report Designer through the BIRT API?

How do you set and pass a parameter to a BIRT report created by the BIRT Report Designer through the BIRT API?

it helps some times I've created a simple report that takes a single parameter. This parameter is used in the query and executes fine when directly executed in the report designer. By the way I'm not using javascript or any scripting for this report. I've seen some people trying to pass parameters using scripts and/or javascripts for answers here, however this is not what I'm doing. I pass all my parameters in through java. Continuing, in this report I'm listing active/inactive items. I pass in an 'N' for listing inactive items and a 'Y' for active items. When I try to pass in a parameter through the API, I always get a list of active items regardless to what I pass in. By the way 'Y' is the default value of the parameter passed in. (I am overriding the defaults in the code below) The problem I'm having is that the report doesn't seem to want to take the parameter I set. Yes the value changes in my variable passed in but the report doesn't reflect the change. My code is below. I've tried to follow the advice of this link and how to set the parameters. , You need to set the parameters on the IRunAndRenderTask:
code :
IRunAndRenderTask task =
Map< String, Object > birtParams = ...;
task.setParameterValues( birtParams );

I hope this helps you . Try to either:
Add your font directory to CLASSPATH (or copy/symlink report fonts to any directory in CLASSPATH)
code :
import java.security.AccessController;
import java.security.PrivilegedAction;
import com.lowagie.text.FontFactory;

AccessController.doPrivileged(new PrivilegedAction<Object>() {
        public Object run() {
                return null;

BIRT Report Generation - How do I keep all row data?

Hope that helps Your assumption 'Normally, ...' is wrong. Instead, normally BIRT does output each row of report data as if it were directly from a SQL query.
If you create a group and you don't want to repeat the same values, you have to move those columns to the group header (and use "drop cell: detail", if you like).

seems to work fine Now I can see where the confusion comes in. From the database you are not retrieving the actual image, but just its location.
For this to work, you have to make sure that for everybody viewing the report, the link is accessible. (ie you can just paste the link in your browser and you should see the image)
