this will help Your problem is that the word "instantiate" means what it says. :-)
In viewWillAppear you're creating a brand new GTGiftsViewController object which knows nothing about the gift that's been selected in the first GTGiftsViewController object.

it helps some times I just want to update that I think I have figured out what the problem is but still can't solve that quite right yet. And well the update is comprehensive so I think it should be an answer though I hope it's not the answer because some puzzle is still missing.
All the problem is interrelated.
code :
[self addSubview:self.view];
/*PO(self.view.subviews);
PO(self.subviews);
PO(self.Title.superview);
PO(self.Title);
PO(self.view);
PO(self.Title.superview);
PO(self.view.contentView);*/
//Suck all the subviews from my minions
for (UIView* aSubView in self.view.contentView.subviews) {
    [self.contentView addSubview: aSubView];
    //[self.contentView add]
}

With these it helps Your 2 approaches each have different issues:
When you use didDeselectRowAtIndexPath and viewDidLoad, your problem is that you're creating a view controller that is never placed on screen (because a different one is created by the segue).

With these it helps If your HistoryDetailsViewController has its layout defined in a storyboard, you need to instantiate the view controller from the storyboard:
code :
HistoryDetailsViewController *HDV = [self.storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier: @"yourstoryboardidentifierhere"];

I think the issue was by ths following , The tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: method is optional, so you have to account for that. You can use optional chaining:
code :
self.delegate?.tableView?(tableView, didSelectRowAtIndexPath: indexPath)
self.delegate?.tableView!(tableView, didSelectRowAtIndexPath: indexPath)
