Android - Set TextColor ListItem on an AlertDialog with list programatically

help you fix your problem I have an AlertDialog where a user must choose between several options. The default color scheme for this is white text on a darkgrey background. In the App users can configure their own color which are suppose to match with white. Changing the background to white isn't the issue, but I cannot set the textcolor of the items. , you need to create custom dialog like this:
code :
Dialog d =new Dialog(context);
d.setContentView(R.layout.dialog);
ListView l=((ListView )d.findViewById(R.id.list));

like below fixes the issue You can't and you shouldn't. *Preference uses styles from com.android.internal.R.styleable which might be changed by manufactures. The idea of using the default ones is that every preference screen in your device look alike.
On the other hand you can try doing an Activity with android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog" in your app's AndroidManifest and place a ListView styled as you want.

it helps some times Create a selector for your TextView text color.
res/color/list_item_text_color_selector.xml
code :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <item android:state_enabled="false" android:color="@color/disabled_color"/>
    <item android:state_focused="true" android:state_pressed="false" android:color="@color/focused_color" />
    <item android:state_pressed="true" android:color="@color/pressed_color" />
    <item android:color="@color/normal_color" />
</selector>
<TextView android:id="@+id/con_name"
    android:textSize="16sp"
    android:textColor="@color/list_item_text_color_selector"
    style="@style/w_w" />
<style name="w_w">
    ...
    <item name="android:textColor">@color/list_item_text_color_selector</item>
    ...
</style>

seems to work fine I have a listview and when I click on a item it should show a AlertDialog with Radiobuttons in it. But when calling the alertDialog, the app crashes. Logcat gives a NullPointerException. What am I doing wrong? , You are calling a function on levelDialog before instantiating it
code :
     levelDialog.dismiss();
     levelDialog = builder.create();
     levelDialog.show();
     levelDialog = builder.create();
     levelDialog.show();
     levelDialog.dismiss();
AlertDialog levelDialog=null;
       final AlertDialog levelDialog = builder.create();
       levelDialog.show();

Does that help If the color will not change after the Activity is created, then onCreate() is just fine. If it can change based on user activity elsewhere, then do that in onResume() so you are always up to date once user returned to your app.
