AngularJS - Passing select list value to function returning undefined

AngularJS - Passing select list value to function returning undefined

To fix this issue You have to pass in the ngModel of the select - not the ngOptions syntax:
code :
<select name="selectRegion" class="form-control" ng-model="selectRegion" ng-change="regionSelected(); mapSelections(selectRegion)" ng-options="location as location.Region for location in locationObject | orderBy: location.Region:reverse track by location.Region">
    <option value="">Select Region</option>
</select>

I hope this helps . not sure why the downgrade this was a legitimate question and here is the answer, I think I got misunderstood or gave bad explanation.
I had to use a service, to use param1 in another controller:
code :
  $scope.passValues = function (param1){
      myservice.firstName = param1;
 };
.service('myservice', function() {
})
  .controller('detail',
    function ($scope, myservice) {
        $scope.content = myservice.firstName;

    });

hope this fix your issue $http.get is asynchronous function, that returns HttpPromise. There are couple ways how you can get data
1.Pass callback, like this
code :
diary.factory('notesService', function($http) {
  return {
    getText: function (callback) {
      $http.get('www/getNotes.php')
      .then(
        function(payload) {
          callback(payload.data);
        });

    }
  }
});

notesService.getText(function (notes) {
  console.log(notes);
});
diary.factory('notesService', function($http) {
  return {
    getText: function () {
      return $http.get('www/getNotes.php');
    }
  }
});

notesService.getText().then(
    function(payload) {
        callback(payload.data);
    });

This might help you The reason why it is failing is because item.friend_username is a string, so when you generate the link like this:
code :
flist_html = flist_html + "<div><a onclick='getFriend("+item.friend_username+");'><img width='100' height='100' src='"+ profile_pic_friend + "'><br>" + item.friend_username + "</a></div>"
flist_html = flist_html + "<div><a onclick='getFriend(\""+item.friend_username+"\");'><img width='100' height='100' src='"+ profile_pic_friend + "'><br>" + item.friend_username + "</a></div>"

To fix this issue The simplest explanation for why your method makeHttpRequest is returning undefined is that, well, it doesn't actually return a value (where's the return statement?)
However, even if you were returning the result of the call to $http it wouldn't be what you want. The whole point of a callback is to handle an asynchronous operation -- if you want to perform logic based on data received from the HTTP response, it must be done in the callback itself.
code :
dataService.makeHttpRequest = function(requestType, urlString, dataObject) {
    return $http({
        method:requestType,
        url:$rootScope.serverAddress+urlString, //recommend taking this as a parameter instead of abusing $rootScope
        data:dataObject
    });
};

dataService.makeHttpRequest("GET", "/documents/checkfilename/", null).success(function (data, status, headers, config) {
     //do whatever you want with "data" here
}); //can also chain ".error" here to specify an error callback

I wish this helpful for you You have to use the bracket notation to access a dynamic property.
So it should be: matrix[a] instead of matrix.a which is undefined.
code :
var testfunc = function(a) {
    var matrix = {
        key1: ["first", "second"],
        key2: ["third", "fourth"]
    };

    var b = matrix[a];

    console.log(a);

    console.log(b);
}

var otherfunc = function() {
    return "key1";
}

testfunc(otherfunc());
const obj = {
  x: 'x',
  y: 'y'
};

const x = 'y';
console.log(obj.x);
console.log(obj[x]);
