it helps some times Try breaking the two steps apart. Start Virtualbox with a LaunchAgent, then delegate starting the container to a startup script inside the docker host. This avoids both race conditions and environment issues.
It should solve everything bar Virtualbox crashes, which is probably a whole question to itself.

Does that help The "solution" ended up being to put in a sleep or a wait after the call to starting the docker daemon. E.g
code :
# Make sure the docker daemon has started
sudo /usr/sbin/service docker start

# Wait for the docker daemon to finish starting
sleep 10

# start the container
sudo /usr/bin/docker run -d 91b5261e2dc0

Hope that helps The main issue is that your containers are not in the same network. I guess you can find a working example by this How to run Spring Boot and MongoDB in Docker containe. Here is a short extract:
docker network create spring_demo_net create a network docker run --name spring-demo-mongo --network=spring_demo_net -v /home/ubuntu/mongo-data:/data/db -d mongo start a mongo container Modify mongo host in application properties as following spring.data.mongodb.uri=mongodb://spring-demo-mongo/YOUR_DB here spring-demo-mongo is the name of container that you created on step 1.
code :
MongoClient mongoClient2 = new MongoClient("spring-demo-mongo", 27017);
