I wish this help you You can use the RichEditControl1.Document.CaretPosition property to get the current position then just use string.Substring(0, position.ToInt()) to get the string before the current position of the caret.
check the code snippet below:
code :
private void simpleButton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    DevExpress.XtraRichEdit.API.Native.DocumentPosition position = richEditControl1.Document.CaretPosition;
    if (richEditControl1.Document.Text.Length > 0)
        //Returns all previous text befor the caret
        XtraMessageBox.Show(richEditControl1.Document.Text.Substring(0, position.ToInt()));
        int intPosition = position.ToInt();
        if (intPosition > 0 && intPosition < richEditControl1.Document.Length)
            //It will return previous character
            XtraMessageBox.Show(richEditControl1.Document.Text.Substring(intPosition - 1, 1));

replace = "'"

' simple quote = 39
' doulbe quote = 34
' antislash = 92
' retour chariot = 13
' n = 110
' r = 114
Set db = CurrentDb

'each table in db
For Each tbd In db.TableDefs
    'each field in table
    For Each fld In tbd.Fields
        If Left(tbd.Name, 4) <> "MSys" And Left(tbd.Name, 4) <> "~TMP" Then
            If fld.Type = dbText Or fld.Type = dbMemo Then
                ' \r\n
                'sSQL = "UPDATE " & tbd.Name & " SET [" & fld.Name & "] = replace([" & fld.Name & "],'\r\n','" & Chr(13) & Chr(10) & "');"
                ' \"
                'sSQL = "UPDATE " & tbd.Name & " SET [" & fld.Name & "] = replace([" & fld.Name & "],'" & Chr(92) + Chr(34) & "','" & Chr(34) & "');"
                'db.Execute sSQL
                sSQL = "UPDATE " & tbd.Name & " SET [" & fld.Name & "] = replace([" & fld.Name & "],'\''','''');"
                db.Execute sSQL
                'Debug.Print (sSQL)
            End If
        End If

hop of those help? You can not do this with a textbox, but you can use a richtextbox: WPF RichTextBox Tutorial
code :
var textRange = MyRichTextBox.Selection;
var start = MyRichTextBox.Document.ContentStart;
var startPos = start.GetPositionAtOffset(0);
var endPos = start.GetPositionAtOffset(1);
textRange.Select(startPos, endPos);
textRange.ApplyPropertyValue(TextElement.ForegroundProperty, new SolidColorBrush(Colors.Blue));

it should still fix some issue Say you have a text file with the only contents being plain text and CR, LF, etc. If you replace one of those characters with the same exact character. Will this result in a new Checksum? , No.
According to google a checksum is:
Change nth occurence of a character with another character in every line of text file
